The Canon R5 became the best-selling camera of the end of 2020

MapCamera, one of Japan’s top retailers in the field of cameras, recently published a list of the top 10 best-selling new and second-hand cameras in December 2020. According to Petapixel , Canon is the number one best-selling new camera in the MapCamera retailer, and Canon EOS R5, a high-end and news camera. The Nikon  Z7 II came in second and the Fujifilm X-S10 came in third.

 MapCamera monitors camera sales throughout the year. The retailer says that six months after the official launch of the Canon R5 camera, December 2020 was the first month that the camera managed to take first place. In the early months, we saw a shortage of R5 on the market, and Japanese retailers were rapidly running out of stock; But in December of last year, a large number of Canon R5 cameras finally became available to customers. 

According to MapCamera, despite delivering a large number of Canon R5s to retailers, there is currently no shortage of benchmarks. “The fact is that the R5 is still in short supply and has not reached everyone who ordered it,” says MapCamera. 

Launched on December 11, 2020, the Nikon Z7 II sold well in almost two weeks from December 2020 and became the second best-selling new MapCamera. . MapCamera says that this Nikon camera is selling very well, and another positive point is that it is available in large numbers. According to MapCamera, many people enter the store and buy the Nikon Z7 II without pre-ordering it.

The third best-selling camera in December 2020 was the Fujifilm X-S10. This Fujifilm camera had taken the first place in November 2020 (November and December 2016); But it fell to third place in December. The Japanese retailer says there is no need to worry; Because the Fujifilm X-S10 still performs very well for its price and is very popular. 

In addition to overseeing the new best-selling camera market, MapCamera also examines the second-hand camera market. According to the retailer, the Sony a7 III, Canon EOS R and Nikon Z6 cameras have long been the best-selling cameras, and the same is true for December 2020.

The Sony a7 III is very popular among users and for 6 months in 2020, it has been ranked as the best-selling second-hand camera. MapCamera says the Nikon EOS R was very well received and was on the verge of releasing the Sony a7 III from the top spot; But the problem with supplying Canon products eventually made it difficult to get new lenses and adapters. For this reason, those who were interested in EOS R had to switch to other products. MapCamera believes that by 2021, Canon’s innovative products could top the table.

MapCamera says 2020 is generally considered a difficult year for the camera market. BCN, another major Japanese retailer, had previously announced that camera sales would fall by 40% by 2020.
