Fujifilm has introduced a unique and specialized model of the GFX100 camera . The company also insists on calling the new model a “Large Format” camera. The latest model of Fujifilm cameras can capture infrared images with a resolution of 100 or 400 megapixels. The camera relies on the new Pixel Shift feature to capture images with such dramatic resolution.

Fujifilm says images captured with the Fujifilm  GFX100 IR camera allow you to see details that would not normally be visible to the naked eye. For example, the GFX100 IR can help detect fake documents. It is also useful for people active in the field of art; Because the infrared spectrum is used to analyze the colors in historical artwork.

The latest Fujifilm firmware update enables the use of the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot feature; A feature that is especially useful for archiving and forensic work. Fujifilm also mentioned the use of this camera in criminology in a statement related to the unveiling of the GFX100 IR.

The GFX100 IR is compatible with Capture One, which means that the camera offers interesting advantages in Tethering photography, or photography through connecting the camera to a computer. Fujifilm says that thanks to the GFX100 IR camera, images can be captured repeatedly from one angle while performing tethering.

Below, you can see an example of using an infrared camera:

Different infrared filters can be used on the front of the lens to capture images at different wavelengths. Capturing images at different wavelengths causes different details to appear in them. With the right infrared filter, the GFX100 IR can be used to capture normal images, making the camera perform like its standard GFX100.

Fujifilm says the GFX100 IR is not to be made available to the public for personal use, and that the company’s approved dealers are selling the camera for use in criminology and scientific research, and to identify counterfeit artwork.

According to Fujifilm, GFX100 IR owners are required to follow certain rules in order to use this camera. The GFX100 IR will launch in the first quarter of next year; But the price of the camera  has not been determined yet.
