According to Apple Insider , citing Apple’s new support document, the iPhone XR , iPad Mini 5, iPad Air 3 and iPad Standard up to the 8th generation do not support Dolby Atmos 3D audio format. Apple has not named older versions of these devices; But they also do not seem to support Spatial Audio based on Dolby Atmos technology.

The document states that the built-in speakers of iPhone XS or higher (except iPhone SE), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (third generation or higher), iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Air (fourth generation) fully support this feature. The announcement comes as the previous support document stated that the iPhone XR and newer models could play Dolby Atmos content on internal speakers. This was also true for the iPad mini 5 and the standard iPad. This change in Apple’s support document was first observed by author and editor  Holger Ilhard .

Apple says users with non-compatible devices can listen to 3D audio content using headphones such as the standard AirPad, AirPad Pro, AirPad Max and a number of Bates products. The company yesterday released version 3.6 of Apple Music for the Android operating system, which provides support for Lossless and Dolby Atmos content for Android users; But it has not announced which device is compatible with this feature.
