Fujifilm has just unveiled a new camera called the Fujifilm GFX100S. The company says the GFX100S inherits the “revolutionary ideas” of the GFX100  camera and applies some differences to make it easier to carry the camera. The result is a compact camera that falls into the category of medium format cameras and has a great ability to capture images.

Fujifilm’s new medium format camera is similar in size to full-frame camcorders and weighs just 1.9 pounds (0.86 kg). According to the Petapixel news agency , Fujifilm says the GFX100S is the most advanced camera based on the GFX system today, and incorporates the company’s best imaging technologies into its compact body.

According to Fujifilm, the GFX100S has a 102-megapixel Back Side-Illuminated sensor (called BSI) and uses a powerful quad-core X-Processor 4 processor. Keep in mind that Fujifilm still emphasizes the use of the term “Large Format” to describe the new camera’s 102-megapixel sensor, but the sensor in question actually falls into the category of medium-format sensors.

The GFX100S medium format sensor is almost 1.7 times larger, and has undergone some improvements to make it surprisingly light sensitive. Fujifilm says the improved capabilities make the aforementioned 102-megapixel sensor better than smaller sensors, providing better depth of field, good dynamic range, good color reproduction, and excellent ISO performance.

Fujifilm announces the presence of 19 exclusive Fujifilm Film Simulation modes in the GFX100S high-end camera, one of which is called Nostalgic Neg. Fujifilm says the controversy stems from the “New American Color Photography” style that emerged in the 1970s.

The phase detection pixels on the sensor of Fujifilm’s new camera cover almost 100% of the sensor surface and can adjust the focus in a short time of only 0.18 seconds; Even in environments with very low light levels of -5.5 EV (relevant tests have been performed with the FUJINON Lens GF 80mmF1.7 R WR). The GFX100S also has an upgraded algorithm for focus monitoring, thanks to the X-Processor 4 processor when using Tracking AF and Face / Eye AF modes.

The GFX100S has a new version of the In-Body Shake System (IBIS) that, according to Fujifilm, can dramatically improve the capabilities of the camera while in hand. The new camera’s IBIS system is up to 20% smaller and 10% lighter than the FUJIFILM GFX100’s IBIS system . Despite the reduction in size, the GFX100S’s built-in anti-shake system achieves 6 stops of CIPA-approved vibration, which is 0.5 stops more than the GFX100’s built-in image stabilization system.
