Sony has just unveiled the 34th GM Series E Full Frame Mount Lens  , known as the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM. For years, Sony mirrorless camera users have been able to use the FE Zeiss 35mm F1.4 quality lens, which is capable of doing a variety of things; But according to a Digital Photography Review  and a statement from Sony, the FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens enhances the capabilities of the FE Zeiss 35mm F1.4. Sony’s new lens is smaller and weighs 524 grams; That means less than 630 grams of FE Zeiss 35mm F1.4 lens; Of course, this Zeiss lens will continue to be offered alongside the GM lens.

The FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens has a sophisticated optical formula that places 14 elements into 10 groups; Including XA element (highly spherical), ED element (very low scatter) and Nano AR Coating II element. Sony says the lens captures sharp images and has the ability to properly control Longitudinal Chromatic Aberration. Longitudinal chromatic aberration refers to the time when large green and purple margins appear in the image at wide apertures.

Sony announces the presence of a minimum focal length of 27 cm and a maximum magnification of 0.23 times in the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM. The performance of Sony’s new lens can be seen in the images captured by Digital Photography Review.

Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens profile

Sony has used two XD (highly dynamic) linear autofocus motors in the FE 35mm F1.4 GM, and Digital Photography Review expert, who has had the chance to work with the lens, describes its autofocus system as “amazingly fast”.

If you are more interested in manual focusing, you can go for the autofocus ring, which has a linear response. The Digital Photography Review says that rotating the focus ring a certain amount, even at different speeds, allows you to achieve the same focus result each time. The FE 35mm F1.4 GM has a customizable focus key and is manufactured with high build quality. Sony says this lens is water resistant.

The Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM lens is set to launch in mid-February 2021 (late February 2016) for $ 1,400.
