The Intel Arc A380 GPU achieved disappointing results in the SiSoftware benchmark.
Information on Intel Arc (Alchemist) GPUs is still not fully disclosed. Also, due to the constant shortage of chips and rumors about the slow progress of companies in making drivers, users’ expectations of GPUs have decreased. The company says that from next month we will see the use of the first models of GPUs in laptops; But so far, with the exception of a few information leaks and small advertising teasers, not many details of Intel’s future product have been released.
Thanks to SiSoftware reviewing Intel ‘s new pre-release hardware, we now have a better idea of the capabilities of the A380 base-level graphics card in the Alchemist suite. In terms of specs, the A380 is apparently equipped with 128 computing units for a total of 1,024 shaders, paired with 6GB of GDDR6 at 14GB / s. In addition, it contains 16 units of the Xe (XMX) matrix .
It should also be noted that SiSoftware used only OpenCL criteria in its testing; Therefore, the results may not indicate performance in the gaming environment. Despite having a 96-bit memory bus, the Intel A380 was slightly slower than the Radeon RX 6500 XT AMD, which has a 64-bit memory bus with a simpler structure. It also performed much slower than Nvidia’s base RTX 3050 and GTX 1660 Ti graphics cards.
With the exception of the 75-watt power consumption, which is significantly less than the 107-watt RX 6500 XT and 120-watt GTX 1660 Ti, the rest of the results for the Intel GPU are unsatisfactory. It is possible that the Intel A380 will be marketed for small PCs where low heat and quiet performance may make up for the remaining weaknesses.
The A500 and A700 series GPUs are expected to perform better. SiSoftware has not yet tested them; So we have to wait longer to access the results. The A700 series will benefit from 512 computing units with 166GB of GDDR6 at 256-bit bus, and leaked benchmarks suggest its performance may be close to that of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti.
Needless to say, the mid-range A500 is expected to be comparable to the RTX 3060 or even the RTX 3060 Ti. Intel says the first Arc desktop graphics cards will be available in the second quarter of this year, so it won’t be long before we can test their performance in practice.
